Frequently Asked Fitness Questions
What is Movement Matters?
Movement Matters is a mobility-focused practice built to help people move better, feel younger, and live tension-free. Our sessions combine assisted stretching, joint mobility, corrective exercise, and functional training. It's a proactive way to care for your body - before it limits you.
Who is Movement Matters for?
Our target demographic is adults aged 50 and up who want to:
- Stay mobile and independent
- Keep doing the things they love without restriction
- Minimize injury probability and maximize performance
- Improve flexibility and strength
- Get off the couch and back into life
We can help anyone looking to enhance their movement and well-being, but we specialize in empowering adults over 50 to maintain their active lifestyles.
What makes Movement Matters different from physical therapy or personal training?
Physical therapy often focuses on recovery and personal training on fitness. We fill the gap in between. Our work improves how your body moves day-to day by unlocking tight areas, strengthening weak spots, and keeping everything in sync. Inspired by systems like NASM and Mike Boyle Strength & Conditioning, we focus on function, not just fitness.
Is this safe for people over 50?
Absolutely - that's who we built this for. Our approach is gentle, progressive, and tailored to each person. Whether you're super active or just getting back into movement, we meet you where you are.
Do you work with athletes?
Yes - especially active adults who want to stay in the game longer. That includes golfers, tennis players, runners, lifters, and anyone who doesn't want to slow down with age.
What should I wear to my session?
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in. Think gym clothes - shorts or athletic pants and a breathable top.
Why Don't You Take Insurance?
Currently, Movement Matters cannot accept insurance. More importantly, insurance companies often impose restrictions that can significantly limit the mobility optimization process by denying necessary claims or dictating treatment methods. By operating outside of insurance constraints, we ensure you receive the individualized, comprehensive care needed to optimize your mobility and overall well-being fully.

- Self-myofascial release, including the use of Hypervolt from Hyperice
- Deep, guided stretching of major joints like hips, shoulders, and ankles
- Subtle corrective exercises to improve posture and movement
- Functional training to keep your body ready for real life
You'll leave feeling more open, stronger, and lighter on your feet.
What are Nick's qualifications and credentials?
Nick is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM-CPT). An Athletic Trainer specializes in sports medicine, providing expertise in injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation. The title "Athletic Trainer" can be misleading, as it implies personal training; however, it specifically refers to a healthcare professional skilled in managing and preventing injuries. Nick is also trained in the Functional Movement Systems approach, developed by Gray Cook, emphasizing movement quality, mobility, and injury prevention.
What are the logistics of Movement Matters?
Due to the personalized, one-on-one nature of our service, meeting once per week is typically sufficient. The total number of sessions varies based on individual needs and goals; however, clients commonly report noticeable improvements after approximately three sessions. Each client's plan is tailored uniquely to their specific mobility needs and progress.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all forms of payment, including credit cards, debit cards, checks, cash, Venmo, and Zelle. Additionally, we offer a 5% discount for payments made via cash, Venmo, or Zelle.
